Chocolate Granola (vegan, gluten free, naturally sweetened)

Updated: Jul 13

A sweet & healthy chocolate granola perfect for smoothies, cereal, yogurt, and more!

As a kid, I used to love literally any chocolate cereal (cocoa puffs and chocolate rice krispies especially). And let's be honest- as an adult, I still love anything with chocolate! That's why I wanted to create a recipe that is not only chocolatey and sweet, but also one that's also made from wholesome and clean ingredients.

Granola is great to have alongside fruit, as cereal, or just to top off a smoothie or yogurt! It can add a nice crunch and sweetness to whatever you put it on, and for some, it also works great as a snack eaten on its own! This recipe is perfect for meal prep because it creates a large container of granola (that will be ready to use when you need it) but if you're looking to just try it out first, I recommend dividing the ingredients in half! That way if you love it- you can follow the amounts used in the recipe, or double those for an even larger batch!

Homemade granola is a great alternative to many of the store-bought options that can be found for cereal these days (especially the ones advertised to kids), because a lot of these options will have tons of added sugar, chemicals, preservatives, and more ingredients that can be really harmful to our bodies. That being said, there are definitely some brands that are being more mindful of the ingredients they use, and, we don't always have time to make our own granola! Here are a few of my go-to brands for granola/cereal when I don't make it at home:

4 cups oats (gluten free)

3/4 cup walnuts (chopped)

1/2 cup cocoa powder

1/4 cup coconut sugar

1/4 cup chia seeds

1/4 cup ground flaxseeds

1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips

1 tbsp coconut oil

1/2 cup maple syrup

  1. Preheat oven to 350° Fahrenheit

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the oats, walnuts chia seeds, and flaxseeds

  3. On the stovetop, or in a microwave safe bowl, combine the coconut oil & maple syrup until the coconut oil has completely melted

  4. Using a spatula or wooden spoon, slowly pour the wet mixture over the dry ingredients, and stir together (making sure all the oats get coated)

  5. Pour the mixture onto a large non-stick pan with a baking sheet (or reusable baking sheet) and spread out the granola mixture

  6. Place in oven for 20-25 minutes (until golden brown)

  7. Allow to cool

  8. Once completely cooled, store in an airtight container, and enjoy for up to 2-3 weeks!
