Healthy Green Smoothie (vegan, gluten free, no added sugar)

A four-ingredient healthy and detoxifying smoothie

Some days, it can be really hard to get any vegetables into our meals. Whether's it's a busy work day, a difficult mental health season, or we just have a lot going on, there are times where it is harder to nourish our bodies the way we would like. Because of this, it can be nice to have an easy-to-make go-to drink for days where we are looking to add in some nutritious fruits and veggies without having to think too much. If this sounds like you, or you're simply looking for a healthy and flavorful smoothie, this recipe is for you!

Here are just a few of the benefits of the simple ingredients used in this smoothie:

  • Bananas- although we only use 1/2 of a banana in this recipe, there are many reasons to include this fruit into your smoothies! Not only are they a source of many nutrients (such as potassium, vitamin B6, and magnesium), but they also add a nice smooth and creamy texture to drinks.

  • Pineapple- pineapple adds a nice sweetness to this smoothie and helps counter the more bitter taste of the spinach we use. Pineapples are also full of nutrients, and they can help lower inflammation and up your immunity.

  • Spinach- spinach is a good source of many important vitamins and minerals, such as iron and calcium. It is also high in antioxidants, and can support brain and skin health.

  • Zucchini- zucchinis are great to add into smoothies because they allow you to add a veggie into your drink without altering they taste too much, and, like bananas, they help provide a nice creamy texture. Zucchinis are high in antioxidants and can help digestion, heart health, blood sugar levels, and more!

  • Ginger (optional ingredient)- ginger is another powerful source of antioxidants, and it can help with menstrual cramps, nausea, and skin health. I also recommend it because of the lovely flavor it adds to the recipe!

Note: The recipe provided below makes one serving, so feel free to adjust the amounts accordingly if hoping to share or save some!

1/2 banana

1/2 cup frozen pineapple

1 cup spinach

1/2 small zucchini (chopped)

1 cup water (or non-dairy milk if preferred)

1 tsp grated ginger

Step by Step:

  1. Add all ingredients into a blender, finishing with the water

  2. Blend on medium until the smoothie has reached a creamy consistency

  3. Serve in a mason jar, glass, or bowl, and enjoy!

Tip: make it a smoothie bowl and top with anything you like! I recommend the following: granola, more fruit, ground flaxseeds, and/or chia seeds
