How to Get Healthy and Feel Great All Summer Long

Seasonal health tips to help you make the most out of your summer

Summer is a great time to re-evaluate your health and make the changes you've been putting off in order to finally reach those goals. It's a season of more light, warmth, and sun, and for those of us who live in areas where it gets very cold and dark during the winter, we want to feel our best in order to make the most of it! To get you started, here are a few simple and easy tips to stay healthy and feel great this summer:

Eat seasonal fruits and vegetables- Not only can this help you save money, but it is also beneficial to your health, overall wellbeing, and the environment. A few of the summer seasonal fruits and veggies include: mangos, cherries, raspberries, strawberries, plums, basil, carrots, chard, avocados, and zucchinis. Stay hydrated- This is especially important during the summer when we tend to be more active, and when we spend more time outdoors in the warm weather. A few things that you can do to help incorporate more fluids into your life include: setting a water goal for the day, having an ongoing timer to remind you to stop and hydrate, and/or incorporate non-caffeinated and unsweetened hot or cold teas in addition to water.

Consider growing your own food- Summer is a great season for growing plants in your garden, on your patio, or anywhere else that is suitable for plants! The sunlight and warm weather can allow for many different herbs, fruits, and veggies to thrive. If you don’t have anywhere you feel comfortable planting in your home, consider joining a community garden if there is one available near you.

Incorporate time outside- Whether it's for walking, running, playing, or just resting, time outside is a great way to take care of your mental health while also giving your body some vitamin-d.

Protect your skin- Wearing sunscreen is important all year round, however, it is especially important when we are exposed to more sunlight for longer periods of time. One easy way to incorporate sunscreen into your everyday routine is finding a lotion that has SPF in it (which I recommend doing all year-round) or adding sunscreen into your morning routine.

Wear comfortable clothes- If it gets really hot or humid where you live during this season, consider wearing clothes that feel comfortable in order to still be able to enjoy some active time outside or inside.
