The Benefits of Ginger

Why to include this healing superfood into your diet

A lot of us may have heard the term "superfood" before, but what really makes a food "super"?

Some foods, such as ginger, have incredibly helpful and healing properties that, when eaten on a regular basis, have the potential to make a difference in your health and wellbeing.

Today we're going to learn a bit more about my favorite superfood: ginger!

Let's start by looking at some of the many benefits of ginger:

Ginger is said to help with:

- Headaches and migraines

- Period cramps

- Nausea

- Inflammation

- Blood sugar levels

- Weight loss

- Indigestion

- Cholesterol levels

- Brain function

Ginger is a root that is typically grown in the spring/summer time and then harvested in the winter. It has a very distinct flavor, and is can be used in a variety of dishes- such as refreshing and cooling juices or warming and comforting soups! Ginger root is typically found in the produce section at grocery stores, and it is a great low waste food as it is usually sold without any packaging! To limit even more waste, consider grating your ginger with a spoon instead of peeling it with a knife- this allows for more of the peel (and less of the actual ginger) to be removed.

Ways to include ginger in your diet:

Ginger can be used in a variety of ways, such as in:

- A cup of tea

- A juice

- A smoothie

- A stir fry or noodle bowl sauce

- Soups

- Applesauce

- Cookies

- Salads

So as you can see, there are many reasons as to why you may want to consider including ginger into your diet- and many ways to do so!
